Revitalizing a web of links into an organized, maintainable resource.
Our Sunday Visitor (OSV) serves catholic parishes across the nation through providing everything a parish could need from curriculum, to books, to print materials. OSV does so many different things for a diverse set of target audiences which led to a problem with the website. It was hard to know how to lead the right user to the right information at the right time. As OSV continued to grow, multiple websites were created as quick “band-aid solutions” which resulted in its central website being filled with a spider web of links. With 40+ linked OSV-related websites, it was time for a content strategy overhaul.
Our approach
The OSV team needed our help to figure out a way to display an enormous amount of information in a user-friendly manner. They also needed us to create a custom back-end experience in Wordpress in order to effectively maintain their content.
"This project is the perfect example to explain the crucial need for effective, maintainable content strategy. At first glance, the old OSV site looked relatively simple. As soon as we started to dive in, we realized the site had very little content and simply linked to several external URLs. I was excited to help the OSV team look at their content from a new perspective in order to consolidate information, create a structure to categorize information, and design a strategic cross-selling plan to efficiently lead the right users to the right information."
The solution
Our Lead Content Strategist worked with the incredible OSV team to consolidate and combine various website content, design a new category structure, decide what new content needed to be created, and prioritize what products to highlight and how to cross-sell within each category. It was a great experience working alongside their large in-house marketing team, and we were able to come alongside the work they were already doing in order to partner with them as an extension of their team.
This new content strategy was paired with an intentional UX design which included a robust mega nav and footer in order to lead users to what they need as quickly as possible. Our development team then brought the content strategy and UX design to life through an extremely customized Wordpress build.
The results
We love how this site is helping OSV serve the church with greater effectiveness and also how the site is making an impression in the industry. This award-winning site is a hit, and we continue to enjoy working with the OSV team on additional projects.

"Working with the OSV team was a great experience. They understood the need for a solid user experience strategy. For a site that offers a wealth of content, it’s important to deliver an experience so customers can easily find the content they want. You never want to lead customers to a dead end. The user experience design for OSV not only provides a positive experience for the end user—it reinforces their brand strategy."
