Reusser’s Downtown Roanoke Mural

FLORAL EXPERTISE

Ouizi was selected for her expertise in large-scale floral mural installations. She drew inspiration from common Indiana flowers, including peonies and black-eyed Susans.

“Education is something I try to do every time I do a mural in different cities. I want the community to learn about Indiana botanicals and celebrate the fact that peonies are Indiana’s state flower,” says Jones.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Born and raised in Santa Monica, CA, Ouizi currently lives in Detroit. Her affinity for botanical subjects began with fond memories of picking figs with her grandmother. This passion grew after she was introduced to artists like Georgia O’Keeffe.

She travels the world installing large-scale murals.

“I like working in small towns. It’s so chill. There are fewer interruptions, and I can also connect and chat with people, too. People here are more down-to-earth and friendlier. I feel really supported and special.”

The Why

The mural was an opportunity to further invest in our community and support the growing downtown.

For Julie Reusser, there’s just something unique about how public art connects people to a community, inviting individuals to take pictures and explore new places.

“We’re so thankful our mural continues to attract great people and positive energy to downtown Roanoke.”
