Honoring Overcomers

JOSH STALLER
Gold Winner - The Ultimate Overcomer
Less than five months ago, Josh was in a nearly fatal car accident in a head-on collision with a semi-truck. His left arm and shoulder were ripped off, his face was crushed, his neck broken, his ribs shattered and was impaled by many things which collapsed his lung. Only by the quick thinking of first responders and Parkview's flight team, he is still alive today. Josh is a husband and father of four. He will be participating in the 4-mile race at Fort4Fitness.
“I am just so grateful every day that my kids still have a dad. They are the reason I pushed so hard and continue to push so hard to recover, become stronger, and be the dad, father, and husband I need to be for my family. That is why I am running now in Fort4Fitness… to give me a goal and to encourage others.”

TOM HUNTER
Silver Winner - The Food + Fitness
A childhood illness greatly affected the strength of Tom’s legs. As he ages, his mobility has become severely limited. Despite these challenges, Tom has been a lifelong exercise enthusiast and especially enjoyed lifting weights and cycling. About two years ago, Tom joined Turnstone and started learning to compete in any and all wheelchair sports he came across. He was encouraged to sign up and train for Fort4Fitness, and last October he finished his first-ever wheelchair race at the age of 66. Tom is back competing again and will race in the half-marathon.

DILLON CAREY
Bronze Winner - The Keep Moving Forward
After prolonged stomach issues, Dillon had his appendix removed in February 2023. Following the surgery, he found out the issue was a cancerous tumor on his appendix that had metastasized. Due to the nature of the tumor, Dillon then had to get the right section of his colon removed in May 2023. Dillon is now cancer-free and wants to be able to “suffer well” and persevere in the face of adversity by challenging himself to do difficult things. He is running the half-marathon in Fort4Fitness.
