Craft 6 Coming Later This year
Beyond the great authoring experience, one of the reasons we chose Craft CMS is its commitment to constant improvement. New major versions are released from time to time to introduce modern features, better performance, and updated security protocols. This is a standard part of the software lifecycle that helps ensure your site remains a high-performing asset for your business.
What’s happening?
Craft 6 is scheduled to be released in Q4 2026, which changes its foundation by building on Laravel, our preferred framework for building full-stack web applications, portals, APIs, and more. Because of the foundational change, Pixel & Tonic (the team behind CraftCMS) has announced CraftCMS version 5 will be in long-term support until the end of 2031.
About Craft 6
Alongside the Laravel change, Craft 6 will also bring:
- Content releases – publish multiple new entries/drafts at once, either manually or at a scheduled time.
- Scheduled drafts – schedule a single draft to be published at a certain time.
- Content importing – import your content using a built-in importer tool.
- Content approval workflows – create content governance workflows that control how entries get published.
- Edit page commenting – provide feedback for other authors within an entry’s edit page.
- Element activity logs – see a timeline of changes to the entry you’re editing.
Prepare for the Future
While your current Craft site will continue to serve your website indefinitely, we recommend keeping software running the latest versions for a myriad of reasons. As of April 30, 2026, Craft 4 will stop receiving any software updates, according to their Supported Versions schedule.
If your website is currently running Craft version 3 or 4, we strongly recommend upgrading your site to the LTS version 5, which will continue to receive support from Pixel & Tonic through the end of 2031. Staying on a supported version is the best way to ensure long-term security and access to the latest web technologies. Additionally, it will prepare your site for the best migration path to Craft 6, which we plan to start offering in the middle of 2027 once version 6 stabilizes after two to three minor versions.
Laravel x Craft
If you are interested in hearing our thoughts on the move to Laravel, we will be sharing more later this year as the release nears. We have been using Laravel since 2016 to build software ranging from APIs to full e-commerce powering grocery stores. The Laravel ecosystem is both rich and vibrant, and we have deep expertise across our web and enterprise software teams building both simple and complex software with Laravel. As a Craft Partner with a long history of building Laravel projects we couldn’t think of a better match (except maybe you and Team Reusser).
